Collecting Old Combo Orks Books

combo-ork013I've collected old sheet music for a long time -- mostly looking for music that will benefit me as a player in some capacity, either through methods, arrangements, or any other written means. I've got tons of obscure songbooks and piano music, books on improvisational concepts from the 1920s, method books by some legends, and much more. I'm trying to close out one of my many collections -- Combo Ork books. A mainstay of the 1950s, these books gave you a full arrangement for three horns and rhythm on one page, and about fifteen tunes in each book. You don't see products like this anymore, but I'm trying to get a complete collection of the Robbins Combo Ork books. I've got most of them, but I'm missing an Eb book for No. 1-4; Bb and Eb for the Waltz Favorites, Mamboettes and the Gem book. I'm also discovering multitudes of other publishers, but I'm trying to stick with what I know. I did find Latinettes from the same publisher as Mamboettes, so I guess I'll have to jump in to the bidding. Let me know if you know of these books or others like them -- I'll gladly trade PDF scans from my existing collection, and I'll be posting more on my other sheet music collections. For now, here are some cover scans:

reminiscing old music is not bad at all more so in some artist that they revived it. its not that annoying to hear new singer make some changes in old songs as long as they give fair justice to it.

Personally, needless to say, I love the very jewelled watches from our selection C along with a option of white diamonds or coloured jewels to match each taste.

I've got the Robbins No 2 Eb-instruments. (and many others)
Do you have either:
Robbins No 2 Bb-instruments
or
Lewis 50 Favorite Dance Standards C-instruments?

I will second that request for the Lewis 50 Favorite Dance Standards C-instruments book! I have scans for the Eb and Bb, the selections are elegant and delightful, but we really really need the bass lines!

I also have scans for the the C-book of an Australian edition of the Paul Hill Combo-Orks (Allan & Co Pty Ltd Melbourne nla mus-vn3315510s2-e, thought the NLA website does not have the matching Eb or Bb versions) and I have the set of three in scans for the Mills All Time Favorites, Morris Hits for Small Combo and the more challenging Remick Combo Dance Orks (the latter includes Trombone lines in the Eb book and many multi-page arr such as a nice Begin The Beguine) -- these are all the scans I have. Our family (2 middle school boys, mama and I) play as a small 'orchestra' at the local outdoor markets and such, and these books are big crowd pleasers and great experience for all of us, I'd love to get more of these, but as you say, you just don't see products like this anymore (we've tried a few modern books, and we could do better arr ourselves, which isn't saying much)

If those I have are of any use to you, I'd love to trade for some scans, esp your dixieland and swing, but latin/mambo are good too, as is anything from the Great American Songbook titles; these are all such precious as arrangements, I really couldn't say no to any of the titles! :) It's also really only scans that I'm looking for as we're looking to use them, and use them with kids, so antique books would be quite impractical compared to printouts of pdfs.

I also wanted to thank you for posting the covers on that Flickr page; I discovered the scans I have through the old slsk network and while we dreamed there'd be others out there somewhere and have seen a few antiques for sale on ebay, we never expected there'd be such a scope of books out there to find! I suppose it makes sense though, when you consider the busy life of the 'ordinary' musicians before 1960 :)

Oh, I forgot to mention: I have a scan of the Eb book for 1951 Robbins (Paul Hill) No.1 if you still need that!
